About The Film

When 17 year-old Dolly befriends a popular ‘bad girl,’ she wants to dump her friend Alexa, but that's always easier said than done. After Alexa convinces Dolly to let her tag along to a party, Alexa surprises everyone but herself when she turns out to be wilder than she seems –– all the way into Dolly's bedroom.

Against the backdrop of Dolly’s evolving identity, this film is a forced coming-of-age story where Dolly learns how quickly trust can be broken and leaves her questioning the ambiguity of her friend’s intentions.

Stills

Mariel Eve Bennett is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Burlington, VT. After spending several years in the music industry, touring the globe as a creative director, Mariel discovered her true passion in 2017: writing and directing. Her portfolio includes numerous music videos, multi-platform show visuals, concert films, and a documentary spotlighting the enigmatic electronic musician Slow Magic.

Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, Mariel uses writing and film to explore the trauma of girlhood. Her work provocatively questions whether girls ever truly escape unscathed, or if that is just a lie promised to us under the guise of “behaving.” These concepts are the focus of her first short film, Dolly’s Room.

Random fun fact: When Mariel was around the age of three, she secretly hid a banana behind her parent’s couch to watch it decay.
